There is extensive incoming correspondence, 1829-1883; outgoing general correspondence, 1847-1850, 1889-1903; machinery correspondence, 1831-1840; correspondence from Wyman and Putnam, a Bangor, Me., merchant, 1839-1843; and from N.S. Carruth, a dyestuff supplier in Boston, 1832-1843. There is also correspondence, 1831-1843, from commission merchants; correspondence with Paschal Abbott, 1832-1854; and correspondence with trade associations, 1907-1917. Also contains detailed financial records, including inventories of machinery, starting in 1831; ledgers, 1831-1897; cashbooks and daybooks, 1831-1903; purchasing records, including wool books, 1831-1898; sales records, 1866-1903; time books, 1832-1901; piece rate payrolls, 1862-1901; and production records, 1862-1935. Also includes records of a sawmill, 1849-1891; miscellaneous records of Joshua Abbott, 1824-1833; and Job Abbott, 1890-1893. Also includes records, 1862-1875, of Barron, Springall & Co., Dexter, Me. George Abbott may have been a partner in this firm, which supplied the company with dyestuffs and wool and sold the finished cloth.
